PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe and inexpensive chip compressor which efficiently transfers all chips stored in the hopper to a compressor mechanism. SOLUTION: A hopper 1 storing chips is formed in a flared state with its open bottom downwardly set. A pressing member (a discharge assist part) 2 is slidably provided in the hopper 1. The pressing member 2 is lowered by a hydraulic cylinder 9 and presses chips 12 stored at the bottom of the hopper 1 so that a spiral screw (a chip conveyer) 4 provided on the side of the opening of the hopper 1 discharges the chips 12. In this case, even if the chips 12 remain in the hopper 1 to form a bridge, the pressing member 2 presses to destroy the bridge so that the chips 12 are discharged to the spiral screw 4. The chips 12 creep between wings of the spiral screw 4 and are carried to a compression cylinder block 10 due to the rotation of the spiral screw 4 to be compressed by a compression rod 15. Also, the hydraulic cylinder 9 cost-effectively shares a hydraulic pump 23 with the compression rod 15 as a power source.
