PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new polymer useful as a raw material for urethane resins of high weatherability using versatile raw materials rather than special and expensive ones by reaction between a phenolic hydroxyl-terminated hydrocarbon-based polymer, a diisocyanate compound and a diol compound. SOLUTION: This new polymer having a group of the formula (R1 and R2 are each a 1-20C bivalent organic group; R3 is a 1-10C univalent organic group; (n) is 0-4) on the terminal is obtained by reaction between (A) a phenolic hydroxyl-terminated hydrocarbon-based polymer, (B) a diisocyanate compound, and (C) a diol compound. More precisely, this polymer is obtained by Friedel- Crafts type reaction between a phenolic compound (pref. phenol) and a halogen- terminated hydrocarbon-based polymer afforded by cationic polymerization to form the component A followed by reaction between the components A, B and C. When the polymer is intended to be a raw material for curing compositions the above halogen-terminated hydrocarbon-based polymer is pref. a chlorine-terminated polyisobutylene.
