PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer in which amino group is introduced into at least one main chain end in a high ratio by passing through a process converting an end halogen into a substituted group having amino group. SOLUTION: A vinyl-based polymer having a halogen group on at least one main chain end is produced and the chain end halogen is converted into a substituted group having an amino group by using an amino group-containing compound. Preferably, the substituted group having the amino group is expressed by the formula: O-R1-NR2 (R1 is a 1-20C bifunctional organic group which may contain more than one ether bond or ester bond; R is H or a 1-20C monofunctional organic group) and its main chain is obtained by polymerizing a (meth)acrylic acid-based monomer such as butyl acrylate, and in the resultant polymer, a ratio of weight-average molecular weight (Mw) to number-average molecular weight (Mn), that is (Mw/Mn) determined by gel permeation chromatography is <1.8.
