PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly precisely supplement an abbreviated part and to decide a word meaning in a translation device even if an error exists in an input character string. SOLUTION: Deciding tree learning parts 12-1 to 12-M inductively and mechanically learn an abbreviated part which is to be supplemented from text data where an abbreviated element is already supplemented in a text data memory 21 and deciding trees are obtained for respective attribute tables. Abbreviated element supplement parts 14-1 to 14-M execute abbreviation element supplement processings by using the corresponding deciding trees and decide the abbreviated element to be supplemented. An abbreviated element supplement selection part 15 selects the abbreviated element having maximum frequency and outputs a character string where the abbreviated element is supplemented. Knowledge obtained from the corpus of text data is expressed by the respective deciding trees for the respective attribute tables and is stored in deciding tree file memories 23-1 to 23-M.
