PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor of high efficiency which can effectively use space as a magnetic frame. SOLUTION: A magnetic frame 16 is constituted of four outer yokes 16a, four inner yokes 16b having a width smaller than those of the outer yokes, a bottom yoke 16c connected with one end of the outer and the inner yokes, and a front yoke 16d fixed on the external side faces of the other ends of the inner yokes 16b. The magnetic frame 16 and a coil 18 wound in an inside space section of the magnetic frame are housed in a fixed case 20 to constitute a fixed section 12. A permanent magnet 26, which moves in the axial direction with respect to the fixed section 12 is disposed in a space between the outer yokes 16a and the front yoke 16c for constituting a movable section 14. The fixed section 12 and the movable section 14 constitute a linear motor. In this case, magnetic steel plates, which constitute the outer yokes 16a and the inner yokes 16b, are stacked in a different direction from the one in which magnetic steel plates which constitute the bottom yoke 16c and the front yokes 16d are stacked. As a result, an outside space can be effectively used as a magnetic frame 16, and the quantity of permanent magnet 26 used increases and the magnetic flux is increased. Furthermore, a winding area of the coil 16 increases due to reduction in the thickness of the outer yokes 16a and coil resistance is reduced and the drive efficiency is improved.
