PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce more smoothly a character edge section by correcting an edge direction into a proper direction where an edge direction of a pixel of interest is improper and setting a density level to a plurality of sub areas in the pixel of interest according to an edge direction of the pixel of interest so as to change a density distribution in each pixel of interest. SOLUTION: In the case that an edge direction discriminated by an edge discrimination section 12 is improper, an edge discrimination correction section 14 corrects the edge direction to a proper direction. Based on an output result of the edge discrimination correction section 14, a density level control section 16 generates a parameter signal to control the center of gravity of the density in pixels in the unit of sub pixels resulting from dividing the pixel of interest in the main scanning direction. A gamma correction section 18 applies nonlinear conversion to gradation data to correct nonlinear distortion in the gradation of a print section 24. A density level setting section 20 controls a density level of data corrected by the gamma correction section 18 by using the density control parameter signal generated by the density level control section 16 to change the center of gravity of the density in the pixels. |
