PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin color filter which does not cause leaking of light even when the pattern width of a light-shielding layer is small and which has excellent display quality and surface flatness. SOLUTION: The color filter layers 23R, 23G, 23B are formed with edges of each layer overlapped on the pattern of a light-shielding layer 22 to prevent leaking of light. A first overcoat layer 24 is formed on each color filter layer 23R, 23G, 23B to decrease projections Pc produced by overlapping. The projections remaining on the surface of the first overcoat layer 24 are flattened by polishing. Further, a second overcoat layer 25 of the same material is formed on the first overcoat layer 24 to flatten polishing flaws S and as well as to make the flaws invisible. Thereby, the obtd. color filter substrate 2 is produced thinner compared with a substrate flattened without polishing, and the polishing flaws of the obtd. substrate are hardly visible compared with a substrate produced by directly polishing each color filter layer 23R, 23G, 23B. |
