PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy-to-see reflective color STN display device with high contrast. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal cell 10 is constructed by holding liquid crystal molecules with a large twist angle between a reflection substrate 2 having a reflection film 22 and stripe-shaped electrodes 23 and a filter substrate 3 having transparent electrodes 33 almost perpendicularly intersecting the electrodes 23 and color filters 35 with plural colors. A retardation plate 5 and a polarizing plate 6 are laminated on the liquid crystal cell 10. Colored gap filters 26 are provided, on the inside of either the reflection substrate 2 or the filter substrate 3, corresponding to intervals of either electrode. The liquid crystal display device operates on a normally white mode in which transmitted light is observed when the light is turned off. The gap filters 26 have colors different from those of color filters 35 adjacent to them. |
