PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eddy-current reduction gear which can develop a large braking torque when braking is actuated through the gear is compact in the axial direction, and has a light weight and, when braking is released, in addition, does not develop any dragging torque. SOLUTION: An eddy-current reduction gear is provided with a rotor integrally attached to a rotating shaft, a group of permanent magnets 4 which are opposingly supported by the rotor in such a way that the magnets 4 are arranged at regular intervals along the peripheral direction of the rotor so that their magnetic poles may be faced oppositely to each other, a group of switch plates made of a ferromagnetic material and arranged between the magnets 4 and rotor at the same arranging intervals as those of the magnets 4, and supporting members made of a nonmagnetic material and arranged between adjacent switch plates. Each switch plate is divided into at least a switch plate 21 and an auxiliary switch plate 22 in the height wise direction so that the plates 21 and 22 may be rotated relatively to each other by a prescribed angle.
