PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet motor in which the magnetic flux saturated overhang part can be lengthened, effective magnetic flux can be increased while sustaining the effect of slit and high efficiency can be attained. SOLUTION: A rotor core 6 is disposed on the inside of a tubular stator core 8 applied with a coil wherein the rotor core 6 has a plurality of holes 3 to be inserted with permanent magnets 4. A slit 5 is made at the rotor core pole 7 on the outer circumferential side of the magnet insertion hole 3, and the rotor core 6 is longer than the stator core in the direction of the rotating shaft. In a permanent magnet motor of such a structure, the area of the slit per rotor core pole part decreases gradually at the rotor core end part in the direction of the rotating shaft on the side 10a and 10b where the rotor core 6 hangs over the stator core decreases gradually as compared with that at the central part of the rotor core.
