PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact zoom lens barrel constituted so that plural square barrels are combined and the posture of the sliding square barrels can be accurately maintained. SOLUTION: By utilizing helicoid parts 22 formed at the upper and lower inside surfaces of the fixed barrel 20 whose cross section is lectangular, the relative inclination of the movable barrel 30 within a vertical surface with respect to the barrel 20 is inhibited. By utilizing both arm parts 76 and 77 of a tool for holding the posture of the movable barrel, the relative inclination of the barrel 30 within a horizontal surface with respect to the barrel 20 is inhibited. The relative parallel movement of the barrel 30 in a vertical direction with respect to the barrel 20 is achieved by making the width of an optical axis direction guide slot 21 in the vertical direction substantially equal to the height of a pin material for holding posture 31 in the vertical direction. The relative parallel movement of the barrel 30 in a horizontal direction with respect to the barrel 20 is achieved by providing both side surfaces of the barrel 30 with play prevention abutting parts 34 abutting on the inside surfaces of both side walls of the barrel 20.
