PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and surely remove icing or the like by detecting the state of protecting glass arranged on the front face of a housing for camera and automatically operating a defroster or an warm water washer device when any abnormality is recognized in the transmissivity of the protecting glass. SOLUTION: A pair of a light emitting element 60 and a light receiving element 62 is arranged for detecting the transmissivity (or reflectance) of protecting glass 24 provided on the front face of a housing 20, in which the camera is housed, and the transmissivity of the protecting glass 24 is confirmed at fixed time intervals. When the transmissivity is lowered, the defroster is automatically operated. Besides, a temperature is measured by a temperature sensor and it is judged whether the abnormality of transmissivity is caused by frosting on the inner surface of glass or by icing on the outside of glass. When it is judged that the abnormality of transmissivity is caused by icing outside the glass, a warm washer liquid is spouted.
