PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fast perform supply, collection, etc., of paper money for an automatic cash receiving and paying machine such as plural nonlinearly arranged ATMs at low cost and with a simple structure. SOLUTION: A position marker part 20 instructing each special area in a running guiding path 12 made of magnetic tape is formed by disconnecting locally the path 12. A running guiding path sensor 22 mounted on a paper money carrier TR sequentially traces the running guiding path so as to enable the carrier TR to automatically travel and also can magnetically detect each position marker part 20. Each position marker part 20 includes a gap part 20a formed by cutting the path 12 in its width direction, and the number of gap parts 20a differs in accordance with the kinds of special areas in the path 12. A controlling part 30 specifies the kind of each special area by detecting the number of gap parts 20a and controls the traveling speed of the carrier TR in accordance with the kind of the specified special area.
