PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control whether a photographed image is to be outputted while keeping the size as it is or to be outputted while expanding or reducing the size, when reproducing the image recorded in a memory and outputting it to external equipment as a video signal. SOLUTION: This digital still camera is provided with an image pickup means 1 for photographing an object, a recording means 6 for recording the photographed object, a display means 8 for displaying the image, an image expanding/reducing means 3 for expanding or reducing the image recorded in the recording means 6 corresponding to the display area of the display means 8, a video signal output means 7 and 9 for converting an image signal processed by the image expanding/reducing means 3 to the video signal and outputting it to the display means 8 and/or external equipment, and a control means 4 for controlling the expanding or reducing processing of the image expanding/ reducing means 3 corresponding to whether the external equipment is connected to this video output means or not.
