PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image reader capable of making a device main body low in cost, small in size and improved in assembling performance. SOLUTION: A device main body 30 is provided with an operation section 22 to be freely openable and a read section 20 to be freely detachable. The operation section 22 is provided with a sensor 17 and an actuator 18 that is freely turnable, and the read section 20 attached to the device main body moves the actuator 18, so as to allow one of packaged sensors 17 and 18 to recognize the opening/closing state of the operation section and the attaching/detaching state of the read section.
