PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of an entire communication system by eliminating an acoustic echo canceller which is provided on a remote side communication device and installing a single acoustic echo canceller in a proximate side communication device as a selected acoustic echo cenceller for remote side use thereby miniaturizing each of a plurality of remote side communication devices. SOLUTION: A proximate side communication device 1 is equipped with proximate side and remote side acoustic echo cancellers 20, 50 that eliminate acoustic echoes resulting from sound from loudspeakers 16, 116 sneaked to microphones 11, 111. Thus, a control section 81 for the acoustic echo cancellers is integrated in the proximate side communication device and when conducting communication of one-to-many points, since it is not required to equip an acoustic echo canceller in a plurality of the remote side communication devices, each remote side communication device is miniaturized and the cost of the communication system is reduced.
