PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an electronic endoscope employing image pickup elements with pixel mixing color filters arranged in them to conduct contour emphasis processing and zoom processing or the like with high precision. SOLUTION: A semicircular optical chopper 36 is turned once at a time of 1/30 sec and an object is photographed for a period of 1/60 sec with an optical interruption of 1/60 sec inbetween. A photographing signal of an odd number line and a signal of an even number line from the image pickup element 15 are sequentially read every 1/60 sec and stored in memories 23, 24 respectively. A mixer circuit 35 mixes both photographing data of an even number line and its succeeding odd number line read from the memories 23, 24 to obtain odd number field data, mixes both photographing data of an odd number line and its succeeding even number line read from the memories 23, 24 to obtain even number field data, a digital video processor DVP 27 applies color signal processing or the like to the data, the resulting data are stored once in a 3rd memory, and the data are read sequentially, alternately and repetitively while selecting a number of a mixed line so as to convert them into photographing data of noninterlace scanning. A DVP 31 uses the photographing data of noninterlace scanning to conduct contour processing and zoom processing or the like.
