PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a closed area without an error even in the cases that there are a few line cuts in the closed area in an original and that the density of the graphic of the closed area is low. SOLUTION: In the case of failing detection of the closed area in the original, a system control part 8 instructs reading operation again to a picture reading part 1 and stores the reading result again in a BM5 for an original. At this time, a filter coefficient in a space filter circuit is reset to be such a coefficient as executes smoothing processing compared with a value at the time of failing detection of the closed area, or a binarizing threshold in binarizing processing is reset to be lower than the present value by a prescribed amount, or a control parameter in thickening processing is reset to an expanding side compared with the present value. Thus, even in cases that the graphic of the closed area in the objective original is originally in the state of 'line cut' and that density information of a graphic picture is low, the closed area is correctly detected by the reduction of the threshold value in smoothing processing, thickening processing or binarizing processing with respect to a fetched picture. |
