PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a telephone set to conduct maintenance, such as update of a basic system program remotely and to execute an application desired by a user. SOLUTION: This telephone set 101 has a function of revising and updating the basic function of itself by downloading a basic system program from a telephone station 102 to the telephone set. Furthermore, the telephone set 101 can execute an arbitrary application program, by downloading the application program from the telephone station 102 or an application server 117 or using an IC card 105 possessed by a user.
