PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a portable radio device of the time-division multiple access system whose antenna can be expanded and housed to sufficiently cover bands for transmission and reception while the antenna is housed. SOLUTION: The portable radio device has the antenna 1 which can be drawn out of a housing and housed, a matching circuit 3 which is connected to the antenna 1, a transmitting circuit 6 and a receiving circuit 5, one of which is switched through a 1st changeover switch 4 and connected to the matching circuit 3, a transmission terminating circuit 9 and a reception terminating circuit 8, one of which is switched through a 2nd changeover switch 7 and connected to the antenna 1, and a control circuit 11 which sends control signals not to the 1st and 2nd changeover switches 4 and 7, receiving circuit 5, and transmitting circuit 6.
