PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound and video editing system, capable of performing editing to sound and video images from a digital VTR more inexpensively and efficiently than the conventional systems and accelerating the editing. SOLUTION: At editing of VTR signals by using a hard disk(HDD) 100 inside a hard disk device H1, the hard disk 100 is interfaced directly with an IEEE1394 bus B1. Then, as a recording area for sound and video digital stream signals on the hard disk 100, the recording positions of the digital stream signals are set continuous, only the digital stream signals are recorded in the area, the continuity of data at recording and reproduction is maintained for the digital stream signals, and the editing is performed in a digital signal state as it is as the stream signals.
