PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain in a short time an image having less influence due to dust or scar on a film by performing invisible ray scan in a shorter time than visible light scan. SOLUTION: A filter 10 is moved to a retreacting position, a density of a film 2 is detected by a density sensor 16 and a film density detection circuit and, based on this information, drive speeds 1 and 2 of a motor 7 so as to perform scan by an infrared ray and a visible light respectively are decided. Then, a lamp 3 is turned on, the motor 7 is rotated in a specified direction by the drive speed 1 and scanning operation of the film 2 by the infrared ray is performed. Next, the filter 10 moving to the cover position and scan operation by the visible light is performed at the driving speed 2. Here, scan by the infrared ray is for detecting dust or scar on the film 2 but not for obtaining image information of the high quality. Thus, the drive speed 1 is set faster than the drive speed 2 and the infrared ray scan is performed in time shorter than the visible light scan.
