PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for processing silver halide photographic sensitive material having sufficient sensitivity even in the case of exposure and development in an extremely short time and superior in high contrast and stability. SOLUTION: An emulsion layer contains silver halide grains containing a transition metal atom selected from among group V-VIII of the periodic table having aquo ligands and nitrotosyl or thionitrosyl ligands in an amount of 1×10-8-1×10-6 mol per 1 mol of silver, and this photosensitive material is imagewise exposed and processed with a developing solution containing, as a developing agent, and having a pH of 9.0-11.0. In the formula, each of R1 and R2 is, independently, an optionally substituted alkyl, amino, or alkylthio group, or each may combine with each other to form a ring: (k) is 0 or 1, and when it is 1, X is a -CO- or -CS- group; and each of M1 and M2 is H or an alkali metal atom.
