PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a magnetoresistive head having good sensitivity. SOLUTION: This method is a manufacturing method in which an effect layer 9 in which a free layer 5 formed on the upper part of a substrate 2 and having magnetization while applying a magnetic field H1, a spacer layer 6, a fixed layer 7 having magnetization and a coupling layer 8 are successively laminated, is formed, heat processing of the blocking temperature or more of the coupling layer 8 is performed while applying a magnetic field H2 to the effect layer 9 in the direction at a prescribed angle with the direction of magnetization, then, a pattern is formed on the effect layer 9, a part other than the pattern is etched up to reach the substrate 2, magnetic films 10a, 10b formed on both sides of the effect layer 9 and a magnetic field H3 is applied to the magnetic film 10a, 10b in the direction at a prescribed angle with the direction of magnetization of the free layer 5. In this case, the magnetic field H2 is applied in the direction being orthogonally crossed to the direction of magnetization of the free layer 5 and also, the magnetic field H3 is applied in the inverse direction of the direction of magnetization Q.
