Steel sheet enameling, involves using a glass frit composition containing a firing-stable proton conductive crystalline mineral compound. A steel sheet is enameled using a glass frit composition containing a crystalline mineral compound which is stable at the usual firing temperatures and which has a proton conductivity of greater than 10<-6> S/cm at 300 deg C. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) a steel sheet coated on both surfaces with a sealed enamel layer comprising a vitreous phase containing the proton conductive crystalline mineral compound described above to impart a hydrogen permeability of greater than 10<-11> g/cm<2>/sec. at between 300 deg C and the glass transition temperature of the vitreous phase; (ii) two-side enameling of a steel sheet by the above process; and (iii) production of the above two-side enameled steel sheet. |
