PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silver halide photographic sensitive material small in fog under the condition of a high temperature storage, superior in rapid processing aptitude and also superior in image forming with laser beam exposure by adding a specified N-containing heterocyclic mercapto compound in an emulsion manufacturing process till the end of chemical aging of a silver halide emulsion and in the succeeding processes. SOLUTION: At least one kind of an N-containing heterocyclic mercapto compound represented by formula I and II is added in an emulsion manufacturing process till the end of chemical aging of a silver halide emulsion. Then, at least each one of compounds of the formulae I and II is added in the succeeding processes to manufacture a silver halide photographic sensitive material. In formulae I and II, R1 is H atom or an alkoxy, carboxy, hydroxy, or sulfon acid group, R2 is H atom or a <=4C alkyl group, R3 is a -COR or -CONHR group and R is an alkyl or aryl group.
