A rodenticidal composition consists essentially of a rodenticide and a bait which is kibbled corn with a preponderant screen mesh size of from 2.5 to 6 mesh (U.S. Standard Sieve). The kibbled corn is a product obtained by (a) hydrolysing cracked yellow corn under steam pressure to form a liquified and dextronized mass of the starch, (b) extruding the liquified mass from under steam pressure to form an expanded and solidified mass and (c) finally subdividing the expanded and solidified mass to a particle size of 2.5 mesh to 6 mesh. Suitable rodenticides are N - monoaryl thioureas such as N - (1 - naphthyl) thiourea or N - (2 - naphthyl) thiourea, phosphate esters such as hexaethyl tetrapolyphosphate, arsenic trioxide, strychnine sulphate, sodium monofluoroacetate, red squill, zinc phosphide, yellow phosphorous, thallium sulphate, 4 - amino - pteroyl glutamic acid 3 - (alpha - acetonylbenzyl) - 4 - hydroxy - coumarin (or its sodium salt), coumachlor, 3 - (alpha - acetonyl - furfuryl) - 4 - hydroxy - coumarin, 2 - pivalyl - 1, 3 - indandione and 3, 3 - methylene - bis (4 - hydroxy - coumarin). The kibbled corn may be impregnated or coated with a suspension, emulsion or solution of the rodenticide. Alternatively, the rodenticide may be added during the manufacture of the kibbled corn.
|
