The brake unit has a brake disk (1) or drum coupled to the wheels. The brake dust (6) produced by abrasion of the disk or shoe can be collected in a dust collector (4). Each brake shoe or brake lining (3) has dust channels (5) in the form of grooves. The dust collector is connected to at least one of these grooves to receive the dust trapped in it.
