The coding method involves converting a time or spatial characteristic of a physical oscillation or wave into a count value sequence, using a width-of-step coder/decoder. Each continuous characteristic is represented by a sequence of codewords of non-contact length, in a given vector direction, in which each has a sign code and a step code.
