The drum filter press has a drum (1) with a releasable cover (18) on its open face, a tubular filter element extending axially along the drum, together with a coaxially arranged flexible tubular membrane (3) located within the filter element. The membrane is pressurized from inside by hydraulic fluid supplied via a hollow shaft (5). An Independent claim is also included for an operating process, where the press membrane is operated by pulsed hydraulic pressure using a hydraulic liquid which is compatible with the product. Residual moisture in the pressed product can be removed by gas purging.
