The X-ray tube has a vacuum housing (3) with a cathode (1) and an anode (4), enclosed by a magnetic system for deflection and focusing of the X-ray beam onto the angled edge (7) of the anode aligned with an X-ray beam exit window (8). A protective plate (10) made of a material with good thermal conductivity and which is transparent to the X-rays, with a low back-scattering coefficient lies in front of the X-ray beam exit window, in good thermal contact with the vacuum housing.
