The method involves approximating to the torque to be determined using a state description of a single-axis gearbox dynamic characteristic in a program module of an electronic gearbox controller with model reverse computation, whereby revolution rates (w1,..) measured by sensors and predefined inertial moments (J1,..) for an engine, the gearbox and/or the vehicle are used as state variables.
