Oxidative stress-inhibitory agents which inhibit the expression of wound proteins and the activation of gene transcriptional regulatory factors relating thereto and show a good feel in using and a high safety; a method f or preventing, retarding, relieving or treating changes in the skin caused by aging induced or promoted by oxidative stress or cosmetically unfavorable changes in the skin stress; and cosmetics or skin preparations for external use which contain as the active ingredient oxidative stress-inhibitory agent s. The oxidative stress-inhibitory agents are characterized by containing as th e active ingredient one or more members selected from the group consisting of cysteine, cysteine derivatives and salts thereof.
