Protection device for a housing (7) enclosing electrical equipment parts (6), which can be removed from below ground pit (2). The housing has an opening (9) through which the equipment to be protected is installed. The housing (7) is mounted on a movable support (10) which permits the opening (9) to be moved downwards when the casing (7) is to be inserted into the pit (2), and to trap a pocket of air so that the electrical parts are maintained above water level.
