Solid oxide fuel cell burner systems and methods of generating heat therefrom

Burner system comprises solid oxide monolithic fuel cell (15). Natural gas fuel is partially reformed before introduction into cell using a POX reformer (40) and air is preheated. Heat energy is recovered from the exhaust (46) of the fuel cell. 23-30% of fuel is supplied to the air preheater. The air preheater combustor and fuel burner are non-stoichiometric.
