PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosensitive recording material having excellent recording density and excellent dot reproducibility. SOLUTION: In the thermosensitive recording material comprising a thermosensitive color developing layer containing an electron donative colorless dye and an electron acceptive compound on a support, a first intermediate layer containing an inorganic pigment and a binder as main components and a second intermediate layer containing an inorganic pigment and a binder as main components are sequentially laminated between the support and the developing layer. In this case, an Oken type smoothness of the first layer is 700 sec or more and a density of the second layer is 1.0 or less. A protective layer containing inorganic or organic fine powder and a water-soluble polymer as main components can be provided on the developing layer.
