PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing propylene oxide in a high yield and in a high selectivity by reacting propylene with ethylbenzene hydroperoxide in the presence of a specific titanium-containing silicon oxide catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for producing propylene oxide comprises reacting propylene with ehylbenzene hydroperoxide. Therein, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising a titanium-containing silicon oxide satisfying all of the following conditions (1) to (5). (1), The average pore diameter of the silicon oxide is >=10 Å. (2), The pores in a volume of >=90% based on the total pore volume have pore diameter of 5 to 200 Å. (3), A specific pore volume is >=0.2 cm3/g. (4), The catalyst is obtained by using a specific quaternary ammonium ion as a template agent and subsequently extracting off the template agent by a solvent extraction method. (5), The silicon oxide has at least one peak exhibiting a larger interplanar spacing d of >18 Å in an X-ray diffraction. |
