A bridge - connected converter has in each arm one or more main valves 2 and an auxiliary valve 1 arranged as in the Figure. The transformer is connected so that when the current is increasing a voltage is developed which opposes the voltage across the auxiliary valve, and when the current is decreasing a voltage is developed which increases the voltage across the auxiliary valve. Consequently towards the end of each conducting period the auxiliary valve takes over the current from the main valve which then has longer to deionize. Preferably the auxiliary valve does not carry any current in the midpart of each conducting period. The main valve is fired 30Á sec. after the auxiliary valve. If there are several main valves in parallel, then the transformer 6, 7 is interconnected with the current sharing inductors of the main valves (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown).</p> |
