In a known type of knotting device fig. 1 (not shown) a pinion 16 which, through gears 17, 18, rotates a knotting bill 20 is held against accidental rotation by a locking device 34 (fig. 4). As the arm 31 rotates a cam surface 36 thereon rotates the locking device about an axis 43 and so lift the latch 42 clear of the teeth of the pinion 16 thus allowing the pinion and hence the knotting bill to be rotated by the rack 30. When the cam surface 36 has passed the latch a spring returns the latch into engagement with the pinion, which is left in the position whereby, as shown in fig. 4, engagement with the rack is facilitated by a cut-away section 33 on one of the teeth of the pinion. |
