PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve appropriate starting performance at the start of a vehicle regardless of the magnitude of throttle valve opening. SOLUTION: The target engagement engine speed MNE is determined using throttle valve openingθTH as a parameter at the start of a vehicle (S2), and an amount of correctionαis calculated using the rate of changeΔθTH of throttle valve opening as a parameter. The desired engagement engine speed MNE and the amount of correctionαare added together to set a final target engagement engine speed MNE* (S4). The engagement torque of an automatic clutch is controlled so that when engine speed NEE has reached the target engagement engine speed MNE*, the automatic clutch is completely connected, that is, the engine speed NE equals the number of revolution NIN of an input shaft.
