PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel lubricating oil compsn. which, when used for nonstep variable speed gears of a metal belt type, can realize a high between-metal friction coefficient between a belt and a pulley. SOLUTION: This compsn. is prepd. by using, as the lube base oil, a lubricating mineral oil contg. at least 80 mass % satd. hydrocarbon component having a viscosity-density constant of 0.79 or lower and contains, based on the compsn., (A) 0.05-10.0 mass % ashless dispersant and (B) 0.005-0.5 mass % (in terms of phosphorus) phosphorous compd.
