PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a metal working oil for preventing proliferation of a wide range of bacteria over a long period of time by adding an iodoacetic acid ester or an amino glycoside to a water-soluble metal working oil which is used in cutting working or the like. SOLUTION: An iodoacetic acid ester or an amino glycoside are added to a water-soluble metal working oil which is used in cutting working to prevent both putrefaction and generation of off-ordor of the metal working oil. As the iodoacetic acid ester benzyl, cinnamyl, iodoacetate, phenyliodoacetate, benzyliodoacetate or the like is cited. As the amino glycoside, gentamicins, ribostamycin, kanamycins or the like is cited. The concentration of the antibacterial agent used is preferably about 1-200μg/ml. The addition of the antibacterial agent may be mixed with at least two components. The time of the addition of antibacterial agent to the metal working oil is allowed to be any time of the manufacturing of the metal working oil, right after the unsealing, before the use and during the use.
