PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an additive to gasoline which is made to exhibit an excellent effect on the cleaning of a combustion chamber inside, especially of a cavity inside, by using a nitrogen-contg. compd. having a hydrocarbyl group. SOLUTION: An additive to a gasoline available in a cylinder direct injection- type gasoline engine uses a nitrogen-contg. compd. expressed by formula I. In formula I, R1 is H or a 1-30C hydrocarbyl group; R2, R3, R4 and R5 are each independently H, a 1-16C hydrocarbyl group, or a group expressed by formula II; (a) is 1-200; R6 is a 1-10C hydrocarbyl group; (b) is 0 or 1; Z is a group selected from group A; (c) is 0 or 1; X is a group selected from group B; (d) is 1-3; (e) is 0-2, and (d+e) is 3. The group A consists of O-CO, CO, or the like; the group B, H, a 1-30C hydrocarbyl group, an alkanol group, or the like. In formula II, R7 and R8 are each independently H, a 1-10C hydrocarbyl group, or a 2-10C alkoxyalkyl group; R9 is a 2-6C alkylene group; and R10 is H or a hydrocarbyl group.
