<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance fixability, separation workability and strength without reducing activity by agglomerating glass granules with a binding agent and fixing photocatalyst particles with an inorganic material as a bonding agent on the surface of the resultant agglomerate as a substrate. SOLUTION: Shirasu as volcanic ejecta particles is previously put in a pan type granulator and a sodium silicate solution and hydraulic cement are added while rotating the granulator to form the volcanic ejecta granules. The granules are put in a hermetically sealed vessel, gaseous carbon dioxide is injected, the granules are fired to obtain an agglomerate of the volcanic ejecta granules and the granules are further foamed to make them foamed particles. Titanium dioxide and an aqueous silica sol, together with glass beads, are charged into a mayonnaise bottle and dispersed with a paint conditioner to obtain a silica sol-containing coating material. After the agglomerate of the foamed volcanic ejecta granules is immersed as a substrate in the coating material, photocatalyst particles are fixed on the agglomerate and the coating material and the agglomerate are separated with a sieve and dried. By heat-treating it, the permeability and NOx removal rate are enhanced.</p> |
