PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adsorbent filter which improves the efficiency of a filter is improved and/or prevents or reduces contamination with an adsorbent itself. SOLUTION: A filter assembly 350 includes a predeterminedly shaped adsorbent 300 disposed in a housing 360. The shaped adsorbent 300 has one or more projections 320 extending from one surface of the adsorbent 300 toward the housing 360 for flow of a fluid between the shaped adsorbent 300 and the housing 360. The filter assembly 350 may optionally include a diffusion channel for additional filtering and/or one or more porous polymer films arranged on an inlet opening 370 or an outlet opening 375 in the housing 360 to reduce or prevent particular contamination. The filter assembly 350 is used in a device, such as a computer disk drive, to filter a fluid, such as air, within and/or entering or exiting the device.
