PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbide, which can be used as an excellent soil-improving agent, by burning the malodorous gases generated in the process of fermentation after mixing it with the carbonization gases generated in the process of carbonization. SOLUTION: Materials comprised of organic waste such as sludge or the like are charged into and are fermented in a fermenter 1, and the carbonized matter as a sub-material is charged from a carbonization apparatus 2 into the fermenter 1. Also air is supplied so that an aerobic atmosphere may be maintained, and combustion gases of high temperatures are mixed, at need, with the air so that the temperatures of 40-60 deg.C, which are suitable for fermentation, may be maintained in the fermenter 1. Compost which has been fermented for the specific holding time, for example, 7-20 days, and of which the water content has been reduced to 40-60% is fed to and is carbonized in the carbonization apparatus 2. The carbonization is carried out, for example, by heating for 0.5-1 hr at 600-800 deg.C in an external-heating kiln without supplying air into it. A portion of the carbonized matter obtained in the carbonization apparatus 2 is returned, as the sub-material, to the fermenter 1.
|
