PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for hydrodesulfurizing a light oil fraction of a petroleum hydrocarbon containing sulfur. SOLUTION: When hydrodesulfurizing a light oil fraction of a petroleum hydrocarbon containing sulfur, after carrying out hydrodesulfurization in a first step, a light component is separated from a heavy component through distillation in a second step. After further hydrodesulfurization of the heavy component in a third step, the heavy component is mixed with the light component in a fourth step to prepare a low-sulfur light oil. Otherwise, the light component after separation is further hydrodesulfurized before being mixed in the fourth step.
