PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive an intake valve and an exhaust valve opened/closed by a very simple mechanism in an engine wherein a combustion chamber between a piston slidably fitted to a cylinder bore and a cylinder head is formed, a cam shaft is interlocked and connected with the intake/exhaust valves opening/ closing intake/exhaust passages provided in the cylinder head respectively, and a transmitting mechanism is provided between a crankshaft and the cam shaft. SOLUTION: An intake valve 36L and an exhaust valve 37R are arranged in parallel in a position biased to one side from planes 38L, 38R passing through axes of cylinder bores 21L, 21R and an axis of a crankshaft 29, and cams 48L, 49R directly driving the intake valve 36L and the exhaust valve 37R opened/closed are provided in cam shafts 46L, 46R serving in common to these intake valve 36L and exhaust valve 37R to be arranged in parallel to the crankshaft 29.
