PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyphenylene ether resin compsn. excellent in flame retardance and impact resistance by compounding a polyphenylene ether resin with a compd. having an acid anhydride group, etc., a polyorganosiloxane having amino groups, etc., and a polyorganosiloxane having specific structural units. SOLUTION: This compsn. contains 100 pts.wt. polyphenylene ether resin [e.g. poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether)], 0.01-10 pts.wt. compd. having an acid anhydride group, etc., in the molecule (e.g. maleic anhydride), 0.2-20 pts.wt. polyorganosiloxane having amino groups, etc., in the molecule, and 0.5-40 pts.wt. polyorganosiloxane having structural units represented by formulas I and II. The structural units represented by formula I give a linear chain structure, while the structural units represented by formula II give a two- or three- dimensional network structure. Pref., the ratio of structural units of formula I to that of formula II is about (3/1)-(1/10). In the formulas, R1 to R3 are each alkyl or aryl.
