PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a stray current by providing an annular insulating member for electrically insulating between a plasma electrode and a furnace bottom electrode at a connector of a furnace cover to a furnace body. SOLUTION: In the ash melting furnace, a furnace cover 10 having a plasma electrode 55 vertically movably to a top with an insulating sleeve 55a and suspended in a structure for cutting OFF an electric connection to a shell 10a of a peripheral conductive member is connected to a furnace body part 12, having a furnace side wall with a slag pond 62 for storing molten metal 60 and molten slag 59 at a lower part with a connector 13 to form a furnace body. An annular insulating material 15 having a high dielectric strength and made of an artificial mica or the like is arranged at the connector 13 in a structure for electrically cutting OFF a route of a stray current thereby. Thus, the formation of the route of the current from the electrode 55 to a furnace bottom electrode 56 can be effectively prevented.
